Senior Data Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will be the first hire dedicated to data engineering within our multi-manager hedge fund. This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in a zero-to-one environment, where you’ll be responsible for building and scaling our data infrastructure from scratch. The ideal candidate is passionate about data architecture and is excited to lead the effort to establish robust data systems that support both operational and investment decision-making.

Key Responsibilities 

• Architect, develop, and deploy scalable data pipelines to support a multi-manager trading strategy.

• Design and manage both structured and unstructured data systems from diverse sources.

• Ensure the availability, reliability, and integrity of the firm’s data assets.

• Collaborate with portfolio managers, analysts, and developers to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions.

• Implement data quality measures, monitoring systems, and anomaly detection for continuous improvement.

• Provide guidance on data management, governance, and best practices across the organization.

• Lead data-related projects and contribute to the strategic roadmap for the company’s data engineering capabilities.

• Act as a mentor to junior engineers as the team grows.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Proven experience in building data systems from scratch (zero-to-one experience highly valued).

• Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL pipelines, and data warehousing techniques.

• Programming proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java.

• Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Experience with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure,

  GCP).

• Familiarity with data orchestration tools like Airflow.

• Knowledge of financial data systems is a strong plus.

• Minimum 7+ years of data engineering experience, preferably in financial services or trading environments.

• Strong ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Self-driven with a strong sense of ownership & bias for action.• Being a team player is key. We are a small but growing team, and we believe in building an environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all of our employees.

• Be present at the office at least 4 times a week.

Nice-to-Haves

• Exposure to machine learning pipelines and advanced analytics.

• Familiarity with Bloomberg API or other financial market data sources.

• Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
